Call Jane | beAJane

Exploring the sobering and painful factual history of choice in America while honoring the remarkable contributions of women like the “Janes” demanded a careful tone, while at the same time recognizing that fact and truth sometimes are mutually exclusive.

Holding myself to honesty meant that I had to examine my own beliefs and feelings about the various narrative situations that Call Jane presents— abortion, race, women’s rights and how far we’ve come—or not come. And in doing so, I concluded that above all, Call Jane is a meditation on choice—personal, political, transactional, familial—and that it could be nothing else for me but a constantly evolving debate, that I sincerely hope we will be having long past the film’s release.

BE A JANE

There are so many ways to make your voice heard in today’s movement.

VOLUNTEER at or donate to a local abortion fund. We are partnering closely with the National Network of Abortion Funds, where you can directly fund abortions for those who need it most by making a monthly donation, or volunteering your time to a local fund. You can donate and volunteer at www.abortionfunds.org

SUPPORT local clinics. Independent clinics provide the majority of abortion care in the United States, serving 3 out of 5 abortion patients in the U.S. They operate in the most politically hostile states - often as the only clinics in a state or region - and the majority of clinics providing care after 15 weeks of pregnancy are independent. Indies rely on fundraising resources not only to stay open and provide care but to support physicians who travel to provide critical healthcare services in the most hostile states, to purchase security equipment to keep patients and staff safe, and to fund critical legal battles to keep abortion accessible as legislative attacks increase across the country. You can donate and volunteer at https://keepourclinics.org/

VOTE. If you live in Michigan, vote YES on the crucial Prop 3. Learn more at https://mireproductivefreedom.org.

If you live elsewhere and want to learn more about how to make your voice heard at the ballot box, go to https://www.weareplannedparenthoodaction.org/

CALL JANE IS PROUD TO PARTNER WITH THE BELOW ORGANIZATIONS.

ABORTION CARE NETWORK

Founded in 2008, Abortion Care Network (ACN) is the national association for independent community-based, abortion care providers and their allies. Together we work to ensure the rights of all people to experience respectful, dignified abortion care.

ALL-OPTIONS

All-Options uses direct service and social change strategies to promote unconditional, judgment-free support for people in all of their decisions, feelings, and experiences with pregnancy, parenting, abortion, and adoption.

THE BRIGID ALLIANCE

The Brigid Alliance is a referral-based service that provides travel, food, lodging, child care and other logistical support for people seeking abortions. We prioritize clients beyond 15 weeks of pregnancy for whom it’s generally more expensive and harder to find a provider near home. We are part of an ecosystem of support organizations that is propping up abortion care access in this country in an increasingly hostile environment.

PLANNED PARENTHOOD

Planned Parenthood delivers vital reproductive health care, sex education, and information to millions of people worldwide.

PLANNED PARENTHOOD ACTION FUND

The Planned Parenthood Action Fund is the political arm of Planned Parenthood. We work to protect access to safe, legal abortion and reproductive rights.

RED WINE & BLUE

We are a sisterhood working to change the world together, one suburb at a time. Red Wine & Blue provides everything women need to successfully organize in their communities and beyond.

WE TESTIFY

We Testify is an organization dedicated to the leadership and representation of people who have abortions, increasing the spectrum of abortion storytellers in the public sphere, and shifting the way the media understands the context and complexity of accessing abortion care. We Testify invests in abortion storytellers to elevate their voices and expertise, particularly those of color, those from rural and conservative communities, those who are queer-identified, those with varying abilities and citizenship statuses, and those who needed support when navigating barriers while accessing abortion care.
